One of my biggest barriers to being a confident public speaker was my accent and comments people have made about this in the past, as well as some negative experiences/feedback following presentations I've done in the past. The sessions enabled me to challenge the beliefs I was holding about myself in this regard, and as such I now feel much more comfortable and confident just being "me" when I'm speaking in public. I think being in corporate roles for such a long time, I felt I had to speak/sound a particular way which I struggled to move away from. I now feel confident just embracing my authentic self and my voice.
One big shift for me was not feeling like I had to use Powerpoint and massive slide decks as a safety net. Partway through my coaching sessions, I had the opportunity to present a "members Spotlight" session at a local networking event. I did a similar presentation at the same networking group 12 months ago, where I had approx. 10 PP slides for a 10 minute presentation. This time around I had one title slide on display throughout my presentation. I felt more engaged with my audience and didn't feel like all I was doing was regurgitating the content that I had displayed on the slides. This was a huge shift for me..
